LIST OF FINISHED BOAT RESTORATIONS
1962, 16 ft. Lakefield Ottawa
BOAT HISTORY
"Scarlett", a 1962 Lakefield Ottawa cedar strip, was shipped to us from just outside of Maine to troubleshoot why she's taking on water.
The current owner has had her since 2011, purchased from someone in the Lakefield, Ontario area. She stays at their summer home on Kezar Lake, Maine.
The name Scarlett was chosen in reference to her striking scarlet-colored bottom. As the only cedar strip runabout on the lake, she draws considerable attention and has earned the reputation of being the prettiest boat on Kezar Lake!
Coincidentally, the building in which Scarlett winters at Kezar Lake Marina once belonged to George Stephenson, son of John Stephenson of the Lakefield, Ontario area - an individual instrumental in the early development of the Lakefield Canoe Company.
THE RESTORATION
Once she arrived here we inspected the boat, and found it needed 13 rib repairs, and some bottom planks replaced. A new epoxy lay up was done to the bottom, followed by Epifanes primer, and two-part epoxy paint (marine red).
The inside of the bilge was stripped, sanded and penetrating epoxy applied, then 3 coats of varnish. Now the bottom is fully encapsulated, which will fix the problem!

All wrapped up, ready to go back to the movers to return to Maine.
